Pohang Wins Grand Prize in Gyeongbuk Local Tax Administration Evaluation in the 5 Trillion Won Era
Award Ceremony for Outstanding Local Tax Administration Cities and Counties
Pohang City won the grand prize in the local tax administration evaluation conducted by local governments in Gyeongbuk Province.
On the 21st, Gyeongbuk Province held an awards ceremony at the K-Chang in the provincial office to honor 11 cities and counties that achieved excellent results in the 2023 comprehensive local tax administration evaluation.
The comprehensive local tax administration evaluation is conducted to encourage autonomous competition among cities and counties to increase tax revenue, establish a foundation for independent financial resources, and boost morale and provide incentives to outstanding cities, counties, and employees.
This evaluation, conducted on 23 cities and counties in Gyeongbuk, assessed 24 detailed items across four areas, including local tax and non-tax revenue collection performance over the past year.
To ensure fairness and objectivity, a practical evaluation committee was formed, and the final awardees were decided through three rounds of meetings.
As a result of the evaluation, the awards were given as follows: Grand Prize to Pohang; Excellence Awards to Gumi and Chilgok; Merit Awards to Gyeongsan and Seongju; Encouragement Awards to Sangju and Cheongsong; and Special Awards to Gyeongju, Uiseong, Yeongyang, and Goryeong. Along with institutional commendations, a total prize money of 48 million KRW was awarded.
Pohang, which won the grand prize, received high evaluations for its collection rate of overdue taxes and performance in overdue tax disposition last year. Chilgok, which received an excellence award, showed outstanding results in the current year's overdue tax settlement suspension rate and the performance of seizing license plates of overdue vehicles, while Gumi scored highly in the collection of carried-over non-tax revenue arrears and tax revenue expansion performance.
Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, expressed gratitude for achieving a collection performance of about 5.4 trillion KRW last year through active cooperation with cities and counties, and said, "Although this year's economic situation is more challenging than last year, Gyeongbuk Province and its cities and counties should pay closer attention to taxpayers' difficulties and combine wisdom and capabilities to achieve the tax revenue targets without fail."
