Korean Epson Unveils 'Spectral Vision System' That Distinguishes Subtle Color Differences
On the 21st, Epson Korea announced the launch of the automated color inspection solution "Spectral Vision System," which quickly and precisely distinguishes subtle color differences, overcoming the limitations of existing inspection methods.
The Epson Spectral Vision System consists of the spectral camera "SV-700S," spectral vision controller "CV2-SV," offline software "Epson Spectral Vision Tool," and inline software "Epson RC+7.0/Vision Guide 7.0."
The biggest feature of the Spectral Vision System is that it acquires spectral information of the surface all at once. It operates by collectively acquiring spectral information of arbitrarily designated areas, capturing non-uniform colors over a wide surface at high speed. This reduces inspection time compared to using a spectral photometer that can only measure a fixed single point at a time. Additionally, there is no need to transport the object for imaging, unlike line scan cameras.
Another strength of the Spectral Vision System is its ability to acquire 16-wavelength data in the visible light range (400?700nm) at high speed within approximately 2 to 4 seconds. The 16 wavelengths mean that the spectrum distinguishing colors consists of 16 types. It can precisely and rapidly capture subtle color differences that are difficult to detect with RGB cameras, which classify colors into three types, and are easily missed even by skilled technicians, enabling pass or fail judgments. The spectral camera "SV-700S," a component of the system, is also lightweight and compact with a size of 73.5mm, making installation easy in manufacturing environments and expanding the range of applications for the solution.
The Epson Spectral Vision System is suitable for use in various industries such as color inspection of jewelry and cosmetics, and judgment of parts with similar colors. It inspects whether paint or rust inhibitors have been properly applied to decorations attached to bags, whether the color of foundation products is stable, and recognizes two identical parts placed on a tray to check if their colors are within defined threshold values.
