Yogiyo Reduces Plastic Waste Emissions by 1,300 Tons Over Two Years
Eco-friendly Data Released in Celebration of 'Jigu-ui Nal' (Earth Day)
Yogiyo announced on the 21st that an analysis of eco-friendly activity data over two years from 2021 showed a total reduction effect of 1300 tons of plastic waste emissions. Yogiyo has been promoting three major eco-friendly activities: ▲changing the default setting to not receive disposable spoons ▲introducing reusable cups in the company cafe ▲and reusable container delivery services.
Since June 2021, Yogiyo changed the app’s default setting to 'do not receive disposable spoons and forks' so that customers can participate in eco-friendly activities, resulting in an average monthly order rate of about 75% or higher where disposable spoons were not selected. This corresponds to a reduction of approximately 2500 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to planting about 350,000 30-year-old pine trees.
Yogiyo’s company cafe also fully switched to eco-friendly reusable cups and banned the use of disposable plastic cups. So far, this alone has reduced the use of more than 200,000 disposable cups.
The reusable container delivery service has also achieved remarkable results. Following a pilot project in the Gangnam area of Seoul, the service has expanded to Gwanak-gu, Gwangjin-gu, and Seodaemun-gu. In the fourth quarter of last year, the average number of reusable container orders increased more than sevenfold within one year of the project’s launch. Additionally, a survey showed that 93% of consumers using the reusable container delivery service responded that they were satisfied.
