Cheongwadae Area Emerges as a K-Tourism Landmark
Ten Themed Walking Tour Courses Introduced by the Ministry of Culture

The government is developing the Cheongwadae area into a K-tourism landmark.
On the 19th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a proclamation ceremony titled "Cheongwadae K-Tourism Landmark, I am the Cheongwadae Tour Guide" at the Cheongwadae Grand Garden and introduced ten themed walking tour courses. These include experiences of the Joseon royal family, cultural walks (Seochon), cultural arts and modern architecture (Bukchon), wellness and nature courses along the Hanyangdoseong Trail (K-Climbing), traditional culture experiences, K-culture, art road (traditional and modern art), literary experiences (Yun Dong-ju), and palace tours. Based on the historical and cultural tourism resources near Cheongwadae, various themes and unique experiences will be offered.
Park Bo-gyun, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "Cheongwadae is an attractive and competitive tourism space where presidential history, cultural arts, nature, and traditional cultural assets coexist," adding, "We will make it a bucket list destination for people worldwide." He also announced plans to develop and introduce customized products linked with travel agencies for MZ generation, middle-aged, elderly, and family tourism.
The Joseon royal family experience course allows participants to wear king and queen attire and experience a day in the royal palace. Visitors can enjoy palace walks, tea tasting, ancestral rites, and archery at Cheongwadae, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Hwanghakjeong, and other locations. The cultural walk program lets participants experience the daily lives of commoners in Seochon. It includes visits to Tongin Market, Sejong Village Food Culture Street, Boan Inn, Daeo Bookstore, and Tongin Herbal Medicine Clinic, evoking nostalgic memories. The cultural arts and modern architecture course introduces works by masters of Korean modern and contemporary architecture, including Beonsachang, Geohyeodong Cathedral, LG Sangnam Library, Arario Museum in Space, Pritz Bookstore, and Cheondogyo Central Church.
The wellness and nature course along the Hanyangdoseong Trail covers the back path of Cheongwadae and the Bukaksan section, opened for the first time in 54 years. It is ideal for enjoying views of Cheongwadae and its surroundings. The traditional culture experience course features Buddhist culture and Korean taste and style, including Jogyesa Temple, the Buddhist Central Museum, alms bowl meals, traditional liquor galleries, and hanok experiences. The K-culture course tours K-culture experience centers around Gwanghwamun, such as the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History and Hiker Ground.
The art road is divided into traditional art and modern/contemporary art. The former focuses on Korean traditional art and the wellness culture of ancestors, including Cheongwadae Sarangchae, the National Folk Museum, Hakgojae Gallery, and Bukchon Museum. The latter is a Seochon tour following distinctive galleries such as Park No-su Art Museum, Gallery Simon, Artspace 3, Daelim Museum, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Seoul, and Art Sonje Center.
The literary experience course follows the footsteps of poet Yun Dong-ju while enjoying the scenery of the Inwangsan Dulle-gil trail. It includes visits to Cheongwadae, Yun Dong-ju’s boarding house, Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum, Yun Dong-ju Poet’s Hill, and Cheongun Park. The palace tour is a walk from Gyeongbokgung Palace through Gwanghwamun to Deoksugung Palace.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to collaborate with major domestic and international travel agencies to develop these into national and generational group tour products. Familiarization tours targeting foreign residents in Korea, international students, and the MZ generation will also be promoted to enhance completeness. A ministry official said, "Once final development is complete, we plan to promote these tours overseas using Korean Cultural Centers abroad and the Korea Tourism Organization’s overseas branches," adding, "We will market them as flagship products at K-tourism roadshows to establish them as must-visit and must-experience destinations for foreign tourists."
