National Fire Agency Research Institute Begins Research on 7 'Guest Research Projects'
Reflecting the Voices of Firefighters on the Field
The National Fire Agency's National Fire Research Institute announced on the 6th that it has selected nine firefighters to add the voices from the field to the institute's specialized research capabilities for fire policy and response technology development, and has officially begun research.
They will participate as visiting researchers to share their experiences from disaster sites and support the development of field-customized policies and technologies for firefighting activities.
The institute received a total of 24 research proposals from firefighters through its website from January 30 to February 15. After comprehensively considering redundancy, necessity, urgency, feasibility, and the applicants' research capabilities, seven projects were finally selected.
The seven selected projects, including "Analysis of the Effect of Epinephrine Administration by 119 Paramedics on Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Patients," held a kickoff meeting on the 13th and officially began research. These research projects will be jointly conducted by the institute's expert researchers and firefighters over six months, sharing progress at a mid-term report meeting in August and holding a final results report meeting in November.
The research methods will be conducted without restrictions according to the characteristics of each research project. For the project on "Analysis of the Effect of Epinephrine Administration by 119 Paramedics on Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Patients," the research consists of two stages: database construction and data preprocessing, followed by statistical analysis to evaluate differences between groups for each surveyed item. The research results are expected to contribute to enhancing paramedics' expertise, such as expanding the scope of special paramedic duties to all paramedics.
Meanwhile, the National Fire Research Institute's "Visiting Researcher System" has been operating since 2020 to discover and conduct practical research projects applicable to the field, and these research projects have led to outcomes such as revisions of actual field guidelines.
