National Human Rights Commission Chair "Welcomes UN Human Rights Council's Adoption of North Korea Human Rights Resolution"
Song Doo-hwan, Human Rights Commissioner, "Welcomes UN Human Rights Council's Adoption of North Korea Human Rights Resolution"
Song Doo-hwan, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, issued a statement on the 5th welcoming the adoption of the North Korea human rights resolution by consensus at the 52nd United Nations Human Rights Council.
Chairperson Song conveyed that, in addition to the existing provisions pointing out human rights violations experienced by Korean War prisoners of war and their descendants, the resolution now includes attention to foreigners detained in North Korea without information provided about their health or detention conditions.
He evaluated the adopted resolution as significant in that the South Korean government participated as a co-sponsor for the first time in five years and that it called for a review of the Anti-Reactionary Thought and Culture Expulsion Law, which defines all content produced outside, including South Korea, as reactionary thought culture.
