Changwon Special City Launches Full-Scale Operation of 'Industrial Machinery Remanufacturing Support Center'
Establishment of Infrastructure for Korea's First Remanufacturing Industry Ecosystem
On the 5th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held an opening ceremony for the 'Industrial Machinery Remanufacturing Support Center,' the first of its kind in Korea, aimed at responding to the climate crisis era and creating high value-added new industries.
The Industrial Machinery Remanufacturing Support Center is the first in Korea, located on a 6,703㎡ site in Sangbok-dong, Seongsan-gu, featuring a two-story remanufacturing building (1,005.48㎡) and a three-story research building (1,987.27㎡). The total project cost amounted to 20.1 billion KRW.

View original imageIndustrial machinery remanufacturing refers to diagnosing old machines and restoring them to like-new condition through processes such as scanning, reverse engineering, analysis, manufacturing, testing, and evaluation. The remanufactured machinery products are known to be about 50-60% cheaper than new products while offering performance and durability equivalent to new ones.
Currently, there is no testing and certification infrastructure for industrial machinery remanufactured products in Korea, making it difficult to secure reliability for remanufactured products. The Industrial Machinery Remanufacturing Support Center supports the development of remanufacturing technologies for seven major industrial machines (milling machines, lathes, grinders, presses, injection molding machines, extruders, and drawing/drawing machines) by linking remanufacturing quality certification procedures and Reman certification.
Through this, it is expected that a remanufacturing industrial ecosystem will be established by expanding research and development of remanufactured industrial machinery and core components, securing quality reliability, and activating global marketing.
Along with building industrial machinery remanufacturing infrastructure, the city is actively responding to promote corporate growth and satisfy demand by establishing ▲ a precision machinery materials, parts, and equipment specialized complex ▲ a domestic CNC demonstration test plant ▲ an AI-based precision machine tool fault diagnosis prediction system and quality inspection foundation.
