Garden Expo, Benchmarking Mecca, Attracts Visitors Nationwide to 'Suncheon'
Seoul, Gwangmyeong, Chuncheon, Boseong County, and Others Visit in Succession
People from all over the country are gathering in Suncheon as if eagerly awaiting the opening of the 2023 Suncheonman International Garden Expo.
The number of expo visitors surpassed 300,000 in just three days after the opening, and the garden expo is enjoying a successful run.
This expo attracted nationwide attention as the President attended the opening ceremony, and it is filled with Suncheonman’s unique gardens and content that are completely different from those of 10 years ago.
Not only visitors but also institutions and organizations from across the country are visiting Suncheon one after another for benchmarking purposes.
The Suncheonman International Garden Expo Organizing Committee (Chairman Noh Gwan-gyu, Mayor of Suncheon) announced on the 4th that they visited the 2023 Garden Expo site at Seoul Grand Park (Director Kim Jae-yong) and the Local Government Officials Development Institute.
The director and staff of Seoul Grand Park boarded the ‘Garden Dream’ boat along Dongcheon Stream and entered the National Garden. Seoul Grand Park plans to explore the entire expo site, including the National Garden and Suncheonman Wetland, over a 2-day, 1-night schedule.
Additionally, the Local Government Officials Development Institute selected the 2023 Garden Expo site for an on-site learning experience as part of the promotion leadership course for grade 5 officials, studying the expo as a successful example of a regional festival. Accordingly, from the 4th to the 6th, about 150 public official leaders will visit the expo site.
On the first day of the expo opening (the 1st), heads of local governments nationwide, including Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, Yuk Dong-han, Mayor of Chuncheon, and Park Seung-won, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, visited Suncheon to benchmark exemplary cases of urban development through ecology and gardens.
On the 3rd, Boseong County in Jeollanam-do also visited the Suncheonman International Garden Expo site ahead of the opening of the ‘Boseong World Tea Expo’ in April, stating that it was a “study visit to experience Suncheon’s excellent festival firsthand for the successful hosting of the county’s expo.” Furthermore, visits from officials such as the Mayor and staff of Gangdong District are expected to continue nationwide.
Chairman Noh Gwan-gyu (Mayor of Suncheon) said, “Suncheon has embraced the philosophy that ecology revitalizes the economy and has transformed the entire city into an ecological and garden city,” adding, “We are always willing to share our prior experience and know-how.”
He also expressed his ambition, stating, “Unlike 10 years ago, Suncheon has created creative gardens that cannot be seen even in Europe, where garden history is deep, and based on this expo, we envision a future of re-exporting our gardens.”
