Wildfire on a Hillside in Sangham-myeon, Gochang-gun, Jeonnam... Full-scale Firefighting Underway
On the afternoon of the 2nd, Gochang-gun, Jeollanam-do, issued an emergency assembly order for all employees regarding a wildfire on a hill in Sangha-myeon and is making an all-out effort to extinguish the fire together with the forestry and firefighting authorities.
The wildfire broke out around 3:19 PM on a hill in Songgok-ri, Sangha-myeon, Gochang-gun.
Two residents sustained minor injuries from the fire and were transported to the hospital.
The flames are spreading to surrounding hills driven by strong winds, making firefighting efforts difficult.
As of 6 PM, the forestry and firefighting authorities have issued Response Level 1 and deployed 14 vehicles including two helicopters and pump trucks, along with 42 firefighters to contain the spread.
Gochang-gun has also mobilized wildfire suppression vehicles from all 14 towns and townships, and about 600 public officials are working with all their might to extinguish the fire.
Upon arriving at the scene immediately after the wildfire report, Shim Deok-seop, the mayor of Gochang-gun, ordered, “Make every effort to establish a defensive line to prevent damage to residential areas and do your best to evacuate residents in dangerous areas to avoid casualties. Mobilize all employees and equipment for firefighting operations.”
