China: "Even if unified with Taiwan, private property, religion, and legal rights will be protected"
The Chinese government stated that even if unification with Taiwan is achieved, it will fully protect Taiwan's social system and private property thereafter.
According to Chinese local media including Global Times on the 29th, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a regular briefing that in response to a reporter's question, "What benefits might Taiwan have after unification?" she said, "After unification, Taiwan can implement a social system different from the mainland," and added, "On the premise of guaranteeing national sovereignty, security, and development interests, we will fully respect the social system and lifestyle of Taiwan compatriots and fully protect private property, religious beliefs, and legal rights."
She further explained, "After unification, the institutionalization of economic cooperation will become more perfect, and with the vast mainland market as a background, there will be greater development potential for Taiwan's economy," adding, "Competitiveness will be strengthened, resulting in a more stable and smoother industrial and supply chain." In particular, she emphasized, "The long-standing water and electricity shortages that have troubled Taiwan's development and people's livelihood can be resolved through cross-strait development and comprehensive communication."
Additionally, she stated, "We hope that more and more Taiwan compatriots will adhere to the One-China principle, so that cross-strait (mainland and Taiwan) relations can improve and develop, and the prospect of peaceful unification can be maintained," and insisted, "For the future of the motherland and the nation, and for the public interest, both sides of the strait must unite as one and participate in the peaceful unification cause."

Regarding President Tsai Ing-wen's planned visit to the United States and meeting with Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, the spokesperson responded sharply. Zhu said, "If she contacts Speaker McCarthy, it will seriously violate the One-China principle, undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and become another provocation that destroys peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait." He also warned, "We firmly oppose this and will definitely take resolute countermeasures."
