Mother Disappears After Childbirth... Another Woman Arrives Ten Days Later Saying "Please Give Me the Baby"
Daegu Police Investigate on Charges of Child Trafficking
#. A mother disappeared leaving her baby at a hospital in Daegu. After ten days, another woman came claiming she would take the baby. What did these two women do at this hospital?
The police launched an investigation applying charges of child trafficking regarding the case where the mother left the baby behind and vanished.
The Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency's Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit announced on the 29th that they have booked two women in their 30s on charges of violating the Health Insurance Act and child trafficking.
According to the police, on the 1st, a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, gave birth and left the baby at the hospital saying, "I will come to pick up the baby soon," then discharged herself.
After Ms. A disappeared, about ten days later on the 13th, another woman in her 30s, Ms. B, appeared claiming she would take the baby. The hospital found this suspicious and reported Ms. B to the police.
Ms. B even paid the hospital bill to take the baby, but the police considered there was a charge of 'child trafficking' because it was confirmed that there was a financial transaction between the two women.
Ms. A had used Ms. B's name and resident registration number to receive medical treatment, and the police applied charges of violating the Health Insurance Act for this.
The police checked DNA from Ms. B's husband, suspecting she might be a surrogate mother, but found no relation.
