Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Son Byeong-bok) has selected Giyang 2-ri (Yeongyang Village) in Maehwa-myeon for the 2023 Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project (new) national subsidy contest.
The selected Yeongyang Village is a village with an aging population, where 58% of the residents are aged 65 or older. The housing rate has remained at 83% for over 20 years, with slate houses accounting for more than 40%.

View original imageYeongyang Village will secure a project budget of 2 billion KRW over the next four years to improve slate roofs, renovate old houses, and maintain safety facilities such as fences, retaining walls, and firefighting equipment. It will also expand living infrastructure by improving traditional toilets and promote community revitalization through human care programs like elderly care and health management, as well as resident capacity-building projects.

Governor Son Byeong-bok stated, “We plan to improve the most vulnerable and urgent parts of Yeongyang Village step by step. We will continue to identify areas with poor living infrastructure and do our best to make Uljin-gun a safe and pleasant place to live through housing environment improvements.”
