The Boryung Cancer Academic Award was jointly established in 2002 by the Korea Cancer Research Foundation and Boryung to honor scholars who have made significant contributions to improving public health through cancer research. Starting with the first recipient, Professor Kim Woo-ho of Seoul National University College of Medicine, the award has reached its 22nd year this year and has been recognized as the "most prestigious award in the field of oncology in Korea."
Eligible applicants are physicians or scientists who have been engaged in oncology research for more than five years. Research achievements are evaluated based on papers published in domestic and international professional journals over the past three years, from 2020 to last year. After review by the Achievement Evaluation Committee and the Steering Committee, one final recipient is selected. The awardee receives a plaque and a prize of 30 million KRW to encourage academic activities.
Last year, the 21st Boryung Cancer Academic Award was given to Professor Yang Han-kwang of the Department of Surgery at Seoul National University College of Medicine, a world-renowned authority in gastric cancer research.
