Exaone, a super-large artificial intelligence (AI) created by LG, won the Grand Prize in advertising. This is the first case in Korea where AI itself drew pictures and received the Grand Prize in advertising. It overturns the conventional belief that "creativity is a human domain."
LG announced on the 27th that Exaone won the Grand Prize in the print category of this year's Korea Advertising Society Awards on the 24th. It took the collaboration Grand Prize with humans just 1 year and 3 months after LG unveiled Exaone.
In February last year, Exaone understood the phrase "spring when sprouts bud" on its own and created original images. These images were applied to a series of newspaper ads titled "Warm Spring, Delivered by AI," "Spring Drawn by Artificial Intelligence," and "Start, Spring Challenge, Spring." This is the first case in Korea where generative AI-created images were applied to advertisements.
To receive this year's advertising award, originality, suitability, and completeness must be recognized by advertising expert professors. LG stated, "Through this award, we have shown that generative AI can be utilized in the advertising field, which requires creativity."
LG's super-large AI (artificial intelligence) Exaone created the newspaper advertisement series "Spring Drawn by Artificial Intelligence." After independently understanding the phrase "Spring when new sprouts emerge," it created new images.

The amount of data learned by Exaone is among the largest in the world. It has learned from over 600 billion corpora, paired images and texts totaling more than 350 million pieces of data. It can learn, think, and judge on its own and understand the context of language. Using this, it creates new images.
An LG official said, "It is meaningful that we created newspaper advertisement materials, a traditional medium, in collaboration with AI, a cutting-edge digital technology."
Not only Exaone but also LG advertisements created by humans received awards. In the consumer-selected Good Advertising Awards, the video advertisement "Sido Song" won the Good Advertising Award in the digital category. It is a hot topic that surpassed 10 million YouTube views and 2,000 comments within 47 days of its release in October last year.

The newspaper advertising campaign "Future, Together" won the Good Advertising Award in the print category. It contained the message that LG will create future value based on AI and clean tech technologies.
