[Breaking] North Korea Fires Ballistic Missile into East Sea... Reacts to Aircraft Carrier Deployment
North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea on the 27th. This marks the eighth ballistic missile launch by North Korea this year.
On the same day, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "We are analyzing the specifications such as flight distance, altitude, and speed of this missile, whose type has not been confirmed."
This missile launch is the provocation eight days after North Korea fired one short-range ballistic missile (SRBM), dubbed the 'North Korean version of Iskander,' from the Dongchang-ri area into the East Sea, claiming it was a 'simulated nuclear warhead airburst' test.
North Korea's ballistic missile provocation on this day appears to be a reaction against the South Korea-U.S. joint amphibious exercises and the deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier.
North Korea escalated its threat level by launching a 'new tactical guided weapon' SRBM on the 9th, four days before the start of the South Korea-U.S. joint exercise 'Freedom Shield' (FS), followed by a submarine-launched cruise missile on the 12th, another SRBM on the 14th, an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on the 16th, and an SRBM capable of reaching all of South Korea on the 19th. Additionally, from the 21st to the 23rd, North Korea continued its nuclear threats against South Korea by launching 'nuclear torpedoes' and 'long-range strategic cruise missiles.'

North Korea has strongly opposed the theater-level South Korea-U.S. joint exercises, labeling them as 'preemptive invasion drills,' and has continued provocative military actions throughout the FS period. It has also vehemently condemned the Ssangryong exercises, a joint amphibious training that began on the 20th. In response to large-scale joint amphibious exercises and the deployment of U.S. aircraft carriers, there are forecasts that North Korea may gradually escalate tensions by conducting launches of solid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), ICBM launches at normal angles (30?45 degrees), and military reconnaissance satellite launches. There is also speculation about the possibility of a '7th nuclear test' depending on political needs.
