LG Hosts Hackathon to Foster Young AI Talent
LG Inhwa Campus 2-Day Hackathon Held... Final Winning Teams Selected, Award Ceremony to Be Held Next Month
LG hosted the 'LG AI Hackathon' from the 25th to the 26th at the LG Inhwa Garden in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, to take the lead in nurturing young artificial intelligence (AI) talent.
The LG Hackathon is a competition that tests the ability to solve problems encountered in industrial sites using AI technology. LG has been holding the competition twice a year since 2020. Since the second half of last year, it has been operated in connection with 'LG Aimers' and the LG AI Hackathon. LG Aimers is an educational program that allows young people to grow into AI experts regardless of their academic background or major.
This hackathon saw participation from 33 teams and 104 young individuals. They advanced to the offline finals by achieving excellent results in last month's online preliminaries, which were attended by 495 teams and 898 participants. Over the course of one night and two days, they competed by redefining problems using the given data and improving the AI models developed in the preliminaries. LG plans to review the submitted codes after the competition and select the final winning teams. The awards ceremony will be held early next month.

View original imageThis year's hackathon theme is 'Development of AI Models for Product Quality Classification to Build Smart Factory Control Systems.' LG provided industrial site data from LG Smart Factories during the preliminaries and finals. This was to help the participating young people build practical skills and assist them in career choices and employment. Additionally, in January, participants were offered core theoretical lectures by seven domestic AI experts. They were able to learn traditional statistics-based approaches as well as AI technologies reflecting the latest trends.
LG offers benefits such as exemption from document screening during job applications to the three final winning teams, including the grand prize (Minister of Employment and Labor Award) and the top prize (LG AI Research Institute Director Award). Including the final winners, all finalists will receive a total of approximately 60 million KRW in scholarships and prize money.
