Cheongsong-gun, Climate Change Response ... Spring Reforestation Project Implemented This Year
Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is implementing a spring afforestation project covering 80 hectares by investing 600 million KRW in areas such as logging sites to expand carbon sinks and enhance the economic value of forests in response to climate change.
The detailed implementation plan includes establishing 60 hectares of economic forests for high-quality timber production and short-term income, planting large trees on 13 hectares along roadsides, tourist sites, and residential areas for landscape improvement and prevention of forest disasters such as wildfire damage, creating 5 hectares of carbon reduction afforestation to maximize the public functions of forests such as fine dust reduction and carbon absorption, and developing 2 hectares of regionally specialized afforestation to create distinctive local landscapes. The tree species to be planted include seven types: birch, larch, hinoki cypress, Korean pine, mountain cherry, and special-purpose trees (Dendropanax and lacquer tree).
Cheongsong-gun plans to complete planting by the end of April, the optimal time for afforestation, to ensure the healthy establishment of spring planting species. Afterward, continuous post-management such as weeding, vine removal, and young tree care will be carried out to nurture the forest.
