Gochang Green Barley Field Festival and Melon Win Korea Representative Brand Award
Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk announced on the 21st that the ‘Cheongboribat Festival’ and ‘Hwangtobaegi Melon’ won the grand prize in the Ecotourism Festival category and Agricultural Products category respectively at the ‘2023 Korea Representative Brand Awards.’
This award is hosted by DongA.com, imbc, and Hankyung.com, and sponsored by Dong-A Ilbo and Korea Economic Daily. The Gochang Cheongboribat Festival achieved the remarkable feat of winning for two consecutive years.
From the 1st to the 15th of last month, through an internet consumer survey where consumers directly participated evaluating seven items including brand reliability, brand quality, and brand loyalty, as well as certification reviews by the Brand Selection Committee, Gochang Cheongboribat Festival and Gochang Hwangtobaegi Melon were finally selected.
Gochang Hwangtobaegi Melon is produced by the honest sweat and passion of farmers aiming to create the highest quality agricultural products in an optimal environment for cultivation, including mineral-rich loess soil, the west coast sea breeze, and large temperature differences between day and night.
The county continuously manages the entire process from production to shipment by introducing new cultivation techniques to produce high-quality melons. Its excellence has been recognized in overseas markets, exporting to places such as Singapore and Hong Kong, establishing its position as the highest quality melon both domestically and internationally.
Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the Gochang Cheongboribat Festival will open on April 15 under the theme ‘Let’s go! Fresh Green Paradise Cheongboribat’ to celebrate the 2023 Year of Visiting Gochang. It is scheduled to be held for 23 days until May 7 at the 1 million square meter barley field of Hagwon Tourist Farm in Gong-eum-myeon, Gochang-gun.
During the festival, various permanent programs are prepared, including the opening ceremony, walking along paths between barley fields, car-free streets, tractor sightseeing rides, operation of the Gochang tourism promotion center, promotional events, treasure hunts, busking performances along the barley field paths, Nongak street performances, and diverse cultural performances.
A county official said, “We will do our best to successfully carry out the Cheongboribat Festival to provide healing to tourists,” adding, “We hope this will be an opportunity to move consumers’ hearts and enable coexistence between rural and urban areas, producers and consumers.”
