Sancheong-gun, Promotion of Medicinal Herb Production Infrastructure Project
Support for Cultivation of 16 Items on 11.3ha
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, is set to actively promote the '2023 Medicinal Herb Production Infrastructure Project' to lay the foundation for the medicinal herb production industry.
This project focuses on supporting the stable production of medicinal herbs and creating specialized complexes for strategic medicinal herbs. The stable production support project provides subsidies for the cultivation of medicinal crops, excluding four strategic herb items.
Support includes seeds (rhizomes, seedlings) and agricultural materials for ground cover necessary for herb cultivation. The strategic medicinal herb specialized complex project aims to develop Sancheong-gun’s strategic herbs by focusing on four items?Platycodon (Doraji), ginger, safflower, and Polygonatum (Choseokjam)?which are easy to process and develop into products.
To expedite the project, Sancheong-gun accepted applications at the end of last year and finalized 33 farms as subsidy recipients through a selection committee. Accordingly, with a project budget of 200 million KRW, a medicinal herb cultivation complex covering a total area of 11.3 hectares across 16 items including peony and Platycodon will be established.
An official from the county stated, “This project was prepared to ensure stable production and increase income for medicinal herb farmers. We will also provide professional on-site consulting and cultivation technology education after harvest to enhance Sancheong’s image as a medicinal herb hub in line with the upcoming 2023 Sancheong World Traditional Medicine Anti-Aging Expo.”

Last year, Sancheong-gun was selected as a regional specialized crop complex development city by the Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services and is accelerating the establishment of a medicinal herb production base by supplying 750,000 high-quality white Platycodon seedlings to local herb farmers through 2024.
