Lee Jae-jin, CEO of Woongjin ThinkBig, "We Will Lead Edutech by Integrating Generative AI"
Lee Jae-jin, CEO of Woongjin ThinkBig, announced on the 15th that the company will provide an advanced edutech service by integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) to build sophisticated educational content and systems.
On the same day, Woongjin ThinkBig held a media conference titled "The Next Edutech? Adding Generative AI" at The Westin Chosun Seoul in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, where it unveiled its strategy to maximize educational effectiveness by introducing generative AI into the Woongjin ThinkBig platform.
First, the company plans to apply the new generative AI technology to the conversational system (chatbot) of its flagship AI learning platform, ‘Woongjin SmartAll.’ The goal is to overcome existing technical limitations and build a broader personalized education system tailored to learners’ levels, including ▲interactive features ▲writing correction guidance ▲book recommendations ▲AI speaking tutors.
Additionally, in the ‘SmartAll Metaverse,’ which has already proven educational effectiveness with its own data, various NPCs (Non-Player Characters) integrated with generative AI?such as exchange students from the U.S., novelists, painters, and archaeologists?will enable users to acquire knowledge simply through conversation. In particular, leveraging the technological capabilities and live service expertise of ‘SmartAll Metaverse,’ Woongjin ThinkBig plans to launch a new English product that combines its proprietary AI algorithms with the strengths of generative AI.
CEO Lee said, “The key focus of education worldwide is ‘increasing immersion,’” adding, “Generative AI will play a crucial role in driving learner immersion through personalized curricula.”
When Woongjin ThinkBig’s proprietary AI operating within ‘Woongjin SmartAll’ provides information such as the learner’s age, interests, knowledge scope, and vocabulary level, generative AI conducts customized conversations with the learner based on the topic and context. The existing ‘AI Personalized Today’ feature, which recommended books daily, will be further enhanced to recommend books considering children’s interests and curiosities.
Furthermore, Woongjin ThinkBig aims to launch various AI-based services to assist learning, including writing correction, English grammar correction, English AI speaking tutors, and free conversation with native speaker AI. The company is also developing a literacy diagnostic program applying generative AI in collaboration with literacy expert Professor Cho Byung-young of Hanyang University.
The usage of ‘SmartAll Metaverse,’ which transfers ‘Woongjin SmartAll’ learning content into a metaverse space, has been steadily increasing, with monthly active users (MAU) rising approximately 15% year-on-year as of 2022. The learning completion rate of members studying in ‘SmartAll Metaverse’ was measured to be 19% higher than that of all ‘Woongjin SmartAll’ learners, and the book completion rate was 14% higher.
