Gwangyang City Council Proposes Ordinance on School Violence Prevention Measures
Assemblyman Ahn Young-heon Establishes Basis for Financial Support of Preventive Activities
On the 13th, the "Ordinance on the Prevention and Measures against School Violence in Gwangyang City," proposed by Assemblyman Ahn Young-heon of the Gwangyang City Council in Jeollanam-do, passed the General Affairs Committee review of the Gwangyang City Council.
This ordinance was proposed to protect victimized students and to educate and guide offending students, aiming to help students grow into healthy members of society.
The ordinance stipulates that the mayor shall cooperate mutually with the superintendent of education and the police chief to prevent and eradicate school violence, encourage autonomous school violence prevention activities by private youth-related organizations, and provide financial support for school violence prevention and education.
Additionally, to support the prevention and measures against school violence, a "School Violence Countermeasure Regional Council" composed of up to 20 members chaired by the vice mayor will be established and operated.
Assemblyman Ahn Young-heon stated, "Recently, not only physical violence and group bullying but also cyber violence are increasing in schools," adding, "With the enforcement of this ordinance, I hope the entire local community takes active interest so that youth can grow up in a safer and happier environment."
The ordinance is scheduled to be approved at the plenary session on Thursday, the 16th.
