As the ‘Crime City’ movie series continues its box office success, production on the sequel has begun. Following the third installment, production on the fourth sequel is also accelerating, drawing attention to the lineup of investors involved.
According to the investment banking (IB) industry on the 10th, B.A. Entertainment, the production company of the Crime City movies, is preparing to produce Crime City 4 simultaneously with Crime City 3. Lead actor Ma Dong-seok is reported to have invested in the sequels through his own film production company, ‘Big Punch Pictures.’
Venture capital (VC) investments have continued for the sequels as well. For the third installment, KC Ventures, Daekyo Investment, and Gaia Venture Partners invested. KC Ventures will additionally participate in the fourth installment. It remains to be seen whether other venture capital firms will also bet on the project beyond KC Ventures.
Previously, two venture capital firms were listed as investors in the first Crime City movie. At that time, Michigan Venture Capital invested 1.5 billion KRW through the ‘Michigan Global Investment Association No. 6,’ and Union Investment Partners invested 400 million KRW through the ‘Union Cinema Investment Association.’ Together, these two firms covered about 40% of the 5 billion KRW net production cost.
For the second installment, KC Ventures, Gaia Venture Partners, Isu Startup Investment, Solair Partners, and Timewise Investment made investments. The production cost was 13 billion KRW, with a break-even point of 1.5 million viewers. Ultimately, the movie attracted a total of 12.69 million viewers, generating revenue approximately eight times the break-even point.

Notably, KC Ventures has been steadily involved from the second through the third and now the fourth installment, maintaining a consistent partnership. Following the consecutive successes of the first two films, expectations for the third and fourth installments are also rising.
