Gwangyang Steelworks Presents 'School Supplies Hope Kit' to Local Children

7th Year 'New Semester School Supplies Hope Kit' Delivery

Delivered to Approximately 6,000 Children So Far

POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Lee Jin-su) supported children's new semester start by producing and delivering 'New Semester School Supplies Hope Kits' for local children in need at the POSCO Eoullim Gymnasium in Gwangyang City on the 8th.

About 220 people, including Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Seo Young-bae, Chairman of Gwangyang City Council, Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, Kim Jae-kyung, Chairman of the Gwangyang City Love Sharing Welfare Foundation, and volunteer members of Gwangyang Steelworks, participated in the Hope Kit making event.

Since 2017, Gwangyang Steelworks has been personally producing the 'New Semester School Supplies Hope Kits' with the hope that children who will lead the future grow up healthy and happy.

So far, about 6,000 local children have received the Hope Kits, amounting to approximately 550 million KRW. In this event, a total of 800 gifts were delivered to multicultural families, children with disabilities, group homes, and local children's centers.

The 'New Semester School Supplies Hope Kit' is carefully composed of 19 items, including study planners, desk lamps, pens and pencils, notebooks, as well as mini scales, hand cream, and lotion, so that children starting the new semester can take care of both their studies and health.

Notably, the event was supported with 90 million KRW from the 'POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation,' funded by 1% of POSCO employees' salaries, and volunteers including Mayor Jeong In-hwa and Deputy Director Lee Cheol-ho personally made the Hope Kits, making the event even more meaningful.

About 15 children from local children's centers who received the Hope Kits also added to the emotion by gifting rolling papers filled with heartfelt thank-you messages such as "Thank you very much and I love you," "I will study hard," and "Stay healthy."

Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, said, "I deeply thank the welfare facility staff who always strive to improve the growth environment for children in need despite the difficult conditions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic," and added, "Going forward, Gwangyang Steelworks will do its best to create a happy Gwangyang City for children by carrying out various scholarship projects and child growth support programs."
