Suncheon-si Provides Discarded Sidewalk Blocks to Citizens Free of Charge
Distribution of 100,000 Waste Blocks Scheduled to Begin April 7
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that it will provide discarded sidewalk blocks free of charge to citizens and organizations.
The city selects recyclable discarded sidewalk blocks (hereinafter "discarded blocks") generated from sidewalk maintenance projects and provides them free of charge.
Applications will be accepted for two days from 1 PM on the 13th to 6 PM on the 14th, and 100,000 discarded blocks will be distributed starting April 7. The city plans to secure additional discarded blocks generated from sidewalk maintenance projects.
Recipients must be registered residents of Suncheon City, and the use of discarded blocks is limited to within Suncheon City. Distribution is limited to once per person (about 500 blocks) and twice per household (about 1,000 blocks).
Citizens who need discarded blocks can apply by visiting the Suncheon Bicycle Culture Center (18 Osankeun-gil). Selection will be made after a simple review of citizenship and usage location. The costs for unloading and transportation when receiving the discarded blocks are borne by the recipients.
A Suncheon City official stated, "We provide free discarded blocks to citizens in need every year to offer benefits," and added, "Due to an increase in applicants, the acceptance of discarded blocks may close early, so citizens who need discarded blocks are encouraged to apply promptly."
