A man in his 20s arrested for selling fake gift certificates in an apartment community
A man in his 20s who deceived people into buying department store gift certificates in an online community for apartment residents and pocketed 116 million won was arrested by the police.
Busan Geumjeong Police Station announced on the 6th that they had arrested and sent to prosecution a man in his 20s, Mr. A, on fraud charges on February 3rd.
According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of deceiving victims by claiming to sell department store gift certificates, some of which were used or nonexistent, at prices lower than the market rate in apartment residents' Naver cafes, Band communities, and other platforms from around September last year to January this year, pocketing a total of 116 million won.
To carry out the crime, Mr. A joined more than 200 apartment residents' communities nationwide, and the total number of confirmed victims so far is 266.
The police tracked Mr. A’s location and arrested him in a metropolitan area. It is known that Mr. A used part of the embezzled money for his living expenses.
