Yeosu Gaedo Reclaimed Land 'Rural Tourism and Recreation Complex' Development Kicks Off

Utilization of Sub-Venue for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo

Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it has officially started the development of the ‘Rural Tourism and Recreation Complex’ on the reclaimed land of Gaedo in Hwajeong-myeon.

According to the city, in January, it secured ownership of 155,856㎡ of reclaimed land at 1813 Gaedori, Hwajeong-myeon from the Korea Rural Community Corporation.

Accordingly, the city will complete the detailed design service for establishing the district unit plan in the second half of this year and begin the construction project in January 2024.

The city plans to designate the Gaedo reclaimed land, which has not been used as farmland due to high salinity levels, as a rural tourism and recreation complex and utilize it as a sub-venue for the ‘2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo’ and other purposes.

Earlier, in March last year, the city designated the Gaedo reclaimed land as a rural tourism and recreation complex and pursued administrative procedures such as obtaining approval for landfill management and disposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in May of the same year.

A city official stated, “We will transform the long-neglected Gaedo reclaimed land into a distinctive tourism landmark of Yeosu City, contributing to the revitalization of the rural economy as well as supporting the successful hosting of the ‘2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.’”
