Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Expands 'Mosquito Larvae Control and Disinfection'
Proactive Response to Infectious Disease Prevention
Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, will expand mosquito larva control measures starting in March to proactively prevent infectious diseases.
The county plans to expand its pest control efforts to eliminate mosquitoes at the larval stage before they become adults, aiming to prevent vector-borne infectious diseases such as malaria, Japanese encephalitis, dengue fever, and yellow fever.
The plan includes disinfecting a total of about 9,700 sites, adding approximately 8,370 individual household flush septic tanks and about 1,110 traditional toilets to the existing 220 locations such as public facility septic tanks and riversides.
Additionally, the disinfection frequency will increase from once between March and April to twice, in March and May, to enhance the effectiveness of the pest control.
A voluntary pest control team, composed mainly of village chiefs from all 264 villages in Goseong-gun, will distribute pest control chemicals and promotional materials provided by the health center to each household. Households will then apply the distributed chemicals by pouring them into flush toilets.
Shim Yoon-kyung, director of the health center, stated, “This pest control policy aims to eliminate mosquitoes at the larval stage, increasing pest control efficiency at low cost and reducing environmental pollution. We will review the results and reflect them in future pest control projects to ensure a safe environment free from infectious diseases for our residents.”
