Jeonnam Volunteer Fire Brigade Holds Resolution Meeting to Prevent Casualties in Residential Fires
The Jeonnam Volunteer Fire Brigade Association held a resolution meeting to prevent casualties from residential fires.
According to Jeonnam Fire Department on the 27th, the provincial association held a temporary general meeting at the Gold Room of Naju Jungheung Gold Spa Resort and promoted a resolution meeting to reduce fire casualties among vulnerable groups.
The resolution meeting was attended by Hong Young-geun, head of Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, Lee Onam and Park Ok-hee, presidents of the Jeonnam Volunteer Fire Brigade Association, and 45 others including presidents of 22 city and county associations.
The provincial association pledged to take the lead in reducing fire damage to people with disabilities and elderly with mobility difficulties, improve public awareness of "Evacuate first in case of fire," and do their best in disaster site activities.
In particular, all volunteer fire brigades will form dedicated teams and visit fire-vulnerable households such as elderly living alone and people with disabilities at least once a month to manage safety, including safe use of stoves and fire source control.
In the past five years, deaths from residential fires in the province accounted for 60% of all fire deaths.
Especially last year, 73% of all deaths occurred in residences, with the highest number of fire deaths occurring in single-person households aged 60 and over.
Lee Onam and Park Ok-hee, presidents of the Jeonnam Volunteer Fire Brigade Association, said, "The 11,000 volunteer firefighters have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the lives of residents through this resolution," and added, "We will faithfully fulfill our role as guardian angels of the residents."
