Busan City Reinvents Itself as a Marine Leisure Tourism Hub Together with Jeonnam and Gyeongnam Provinces
Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and 3 Cities/Provinces Sign Marine Leisure Tourism Agreement for South Coast Region
Policy Council Meeting for South Coast Region Held in Tongyeong at 11 AM on the 20th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City will hold the ‘Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries-Southern Coast Area (Busan, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam) Policy Council’ at 11 a.m. on the 20th at Tongyeong International Music Hall, attended by Cho Seung-hwan, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan, Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam, and Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam, to sign a business agreement to revitalize marine leisure tourism in the southern coastal area.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced the policy to create the ‘Southern Coast Marine Leisure Tourism Belt’ through the presidential work report in January, and the three local governments of Busan, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam also signed a win-win cooperation agreement last December to establish the ‘Southern Coast Global Marine Tourism Belt.’
Accordingly, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the three local governments have come together to build the southern coastal area into a world-class marine leisure tourism belt by holding this policy council and signing a business agreement for establishing a promotion strategy.
The main contents of the business agreement include ▲ the formation and operation of a task force to foster the area as an international tourism hub and center for related projects ▲ development of global brands and tourism resources ▲ improvement of systems related to marine leisure tourism and establishment of mid- to long-term strategies.
According to this business agreement, the four institutions will discover ideas for utilizing regional tourism resources and fostering industries, promote related projects, and establish mid- to long-term strategies jointly by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the three regions through regional linkage within this year.
At the policy council, the Korea Maritime Institute will present the necessity and overall direction for revitalizing marine leisure tourism in the southern coastal area, and the three cities and provinces will announce their future promotion plans (drafts) for the projects they have conceived regionally.
