To more effectively explain Busan's appeal and hosting capabilities, the mayor of the host city, Mayor Park Hyung-jun, and Jang In-hwa, chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, personally participated in the press tour, which was also attended by KCCI officials and representatives from major domestic media outlets.
The event included various programs to enhance understanding of the 2030 Busan World Expo, such as a meeting at the Busan Port International Convention Center, a site inspection of the Bukhang (North Port) Sky Park (the proposed venue), and boarding the Bukhang promotional ship.
The meeting began with greetings from Mayor Park and Chairman Jang, followed by viewing a promotional video and a Q&A session. Afterwards, participants moved to Bukhang Sky Park to inspect the proposed site, and finally boarded the Bukhang promotional ship, concluding all scheduled activities.
In his greeting, Mayor Park Hyung-jun expressed gratitude to the KCCI officials working hard for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid and to the reporters visiting Busan.
"The 2030 Busan World Expo is not just an event for Busan but a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to propel the entire Republic of Korea into the ranks of the world's top seven powers," he said. "Through the Busan initiative, we can connect and develop all fields, from Korea's advanced technologies to various industries and cultural tourism, with many countries around the world."
"If Busan develops like Hong Kong or Singapore through this process, Korea will become a country that runs on two wheels," he emphasized. "The 2030 Busan World Expo will greatly contribute to national balanced development and driving future growth engines."
He particularly urged, "Ahead of the BIE delegation's on-site inspection in April, I ask for the interest and cooperation of the accredited reporters so that the passionate bid enthusiasm can spread throughout the country."
Chairman Jang In-hwa of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry also said in his greeting, "The enthusiasm for Busan's bid for the 2030 World Expo is so intense that saying it is boiling is an understatement; the entire local community is putting in their utmost effort." He added, "The 2030 Busan World Expo is essential to elevate Korea's status and for Busan, the key city in the southern region, to leap forward as a logistics and tourism hub with competitiveness in Northeast Asia. Therefore, I ask for the keen interest and active support of media personnel from the Seoul metropolitan area for the government's and Busan City's bid activities."
The KCCI-accredited reporters had ample opportunities to see and hear about Busan's appeal, strengths, and bid preparation status through viewing the promotional video, Q&A sessions, inspecting the planned expo site, and boarding the promotional ship.
With the BIE's on-site inspection scheduled for April approaching, the reporters deeply agreed that the strong public enthusiasm for the bid is paramount in selecting the host city and pledged to actively cooperate in spreading domestic bid enthusiasm.
In response, KCCI officials pledged to continue cooperating with the government and Busan City and to make every effort to secure the 2030 Busan World Expo bid.
