‘Haenyeo, Embracing the Sea’ … Pohang Poeun Central Library Explores Local Cultural Heritage Haenyeo
A Time to Learn About Dr. Kim Soohee, Haenyeo, and Marine Culture
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] From March 7 to April 25, Pohang City will hold a session every Tuesday at 7 PM on the 3rd floor of Poeun Central Library, Learning Room 1, titled "Haenyeo, Embracing the Sea," to learn about Korea's haenyeo and maritime culture together with Dr. Soohee Kim.
Dr. Soohee Kim, the head of education and research at the Dokdo Foundation, has been steadily researching haenyeo and maritime culture, conveying the precious value of haenyeo culture.
This 8-week program will explore the transformation process of Korean haenyeo and the overall haenyeo activities in Korea, and will also provide an opportunity to meet actual haenyeo from Guryongpo to resolve questions about haenyeo.
The "Byeolzzi Humanities Class" is accepting applications from the 14th through the cultural event application section on the Pohang City Library website, and related inquiries can be made to the city library.

A Pohang City official stated, "Through this program, we will systematize knowledge about haenyeo, a local cultural heritage, and take the lead in recording, preserving, and passing on the culture," adding, "We plan to conduct various programs related to our lives in the future, so we ask for the citizens' great interest and participation."
