No Yeonhong, Former Head of MFDS, Appointed Next President of Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association... To Take Office Next Month
Unanimous Appointment at the 1st Board Meeting
[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] Noh Yeon-hong, former Commissioner of the Korea Food and Drug Administration, has been appointed as the next president of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association.
The association announced on the 14th that it held the first board meeting of 2023 at the auditorium on the 4th floor of the Pharmaceutical Hall in Bangbae-dong, Seoul, where former Commissioner Noh was unanimously appointed as the 22nd president for a two-year term.

View original imageNext President Noh Yeon-hong passed the 27th Administrative Examination and served as Director of the Health Insurance Benefits Division and Director of the Health and Medical Policy Headquarters at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Health and Welfare Secretary at the Presidential Office, Commissioner of the Korea Food and Drug Administration, and Senior Secretary for Employment and Welfare at the Presidential Office. He later served as Vice President of Gachon University, Chairman of the Drug Benefits Evaluation Committee at the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, and legal advisor at Kim & Chang Law Firm. Last year, he also participated as a special COVID-19 committee member of the Presidential Transition Committee.
Prior to the board meeting, at the second chairpersons’ meeting held that day, former Commissioner Noh was recommended as the sole candidate for the next president in accordance with the association’s bylaws, and the appointment procedure was completed through the board meeting. The appointment will be reported at the general meeting on the 21st. He will succeed current President Won Hee-mok, who steps down at the end of this month, and assume the position of the 22nd president of the Korea Pharmaceutical and Bio-Pharma Manufacturers Association for a two-year term starting March 1.
Meanwhile, the board approved the 2023 budget of approximately 12 billion KRW, a 4.6% increase from the previous year, along with major business plans, last year’s business performance, and financial statements as originally proposed. The board also passed amendments to the committee operation regulations, including the establishment of a Digital Health Committee, renaming existing subcommittees to specialized committees, and revising the division of duties among committees.
Accordingly, under the business goals of “Establishing Pharmaceutical Sovereignty” and “Building an Open Innovation Ecosystem” this year, the association will actively implement four major strategies and 16 core tasks: ▲ fostering an ecosystem for blockbuster new drug creation ▲ simultaneously enhancing pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and industrial competitiveness ▲ laying the foundation for becoming a global central country ▲ and establishing an environment for industrial advancement.
The board also appointed outgoing President Won Hee-mok as an advisor to the association. According to Article 16 of the association’s bylaws, individuals with extensive knowledge and experience in the pharmaceutical industry can be appointed as advisors through the board. The term of an advisor is two years.
The association plans to hold the 78th regular general meeting at 3 p.m. on the 21st to finalize the 2023 business plan and budget, as well as the 2022 business performance and financial report.
