[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 14th that "Hwang Gi-seok, Fire Commissioner, has been appointed as the new head of the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters as of February 14, following government personnel changes."
The new head, Hwang Gi-seok, served as Director of the Fire Prevention Bureau at the National Fire Agency, Chief of the 119 Comprehensive Situation Room at the National Fire Agency, Fire Chief of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Fire Chief of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Legal Advisory Team Leader of the Regulatory Reform Legal Affairs Office at the Ministry of Public Safety and Security, Fire Chief of Iksan Fire Station in Jeonbuk, and Director of the Protection and Prevention Division at Osan Fire Station in Gyeonggi Province from January last year until February 13 this year.
Director Hwang is recognized as a practical leader who has experience in various key positions in central departments as well as frontline sites, and is praised for his excellent policy execution and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, he is known to have earned strong trust both internally and externally by communicating with staff based on his unique affinity.
Meanwhile, Hwang Gi-seok, originally from Gochang, Jeonbuk, passed the 44th Judicial Examination in 2002 and entered the fire service in 2005 through a career competitive recruitment. He graduated from the Department of Law at Jeonbuk National University, earned a master's degree in law from the same university's graduate school, and received a Prime Minister's Commendation.
