Fire Agency Deploys Multi-Purpose Medium Firefighting Helicopter in Honam Region
Deployment of Two Domestic Firefighting Helicopters (KUHC-1)
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The Central 119 Rescue Headquarters of the National Fire Agency announced on the 14th that it will deploy two medium-sized firefighting helicopters to the Honam 119 Special Rescue Team located in Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do, and hold a commissioning ceremony on the 15th to officially begin aerial rescue and emergency medical flight missions.
The newly deployed multipurpose medium-sized firefighting helicopters, 'Honam 1' and 'Honam 2,' are domestically produced helicopters (KUHC-1) manufactured by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI). Including these two, there are a total of four helicopters of the same model: the Jeju 119 Aviation Unit, the Gyeongnam 119 Aviation Unit, and two at the Central 119 Rescue Headquarters.
These helicopters are equipped with advanced navigation systems that enable night missions, and the emergency medical equipment (EMS kit) can be attached and detached, allowing for smooth transport of emergency patients. Additionally, they are capable of mountain rescue missions using a hoist, and with a water capacity of 2,000 liters, they can support large-scale fire suppression and wildfire control, making them versatile for various disaster environments.
Meanwhile, the Central 119 Rescue Headquarters has been promoting a helicopter production project over three years since 2020. After deploying the helicopters to the Honam 119 Special Rescue Team on November 2 of last year, they have conducted type transition training and mission adaptation exercises for aviation personnel over the past three months.
