Busan City Opens Nationwide First Independent Building 'Gwangyeok Self-Support Center' Relocation
Busan-Style One-Stop (ONE-STOP) Self-Support Space
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 13th at 2 p.m., Busan City will hold the ‘Busan Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center Relocation Opening Ceremony,’ newly established as a Busan-type one-stop (ONE-STOP) self-sufficiency support space in Gupo-dong, Buk-gu.
About 60 people, including Mayor Park Hyung-jun, Lee Jong-jin, Chair of the Welfare and Environment Committee of the City Council, Park Dae-geun, Chair of the Construction and Transportation Committee of the City Council, Lee Jong-hwan, Floor Leader of the People Power Party in the City Council, Oh Tae-won, Mayor of Buk-gu, Jeong Ki-soo, Chair of Buk-gu Council, Jeong Hae-sik, Director of the Korea Self-Sufficiency Welfare Development Institute, Kim Gwi-su, Head of Household Support Division at Korea Asset Management Corporation, Shin Jung-ho, Head of the Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Office of the Credit Recovery Committee, and heads of nationwide metropolitan and regional self-sufficiency project-related organizations, will attend to celebrate the opening.
This is the first case among local governments nationwide where a metropolitan self-sufficiency center secures an independent building and begins operation. By relocating the center, which was previously operated on one floor in Yeonsan-dong, to a four-story independent building, the entire building will be dedicated to supporting the self-sufficiency of socially vulnerable groups, raising great expectations that it will be reborn as a space full of ‘self-sufficiency success stories.’
The ‘Busan-type one-stop self-sufficiency support space,’ where counseling and education for self-sufficiency, financial welfare and debt relief support, employment and start-up support, and exhibition and sales of self-sufficiency products from the Busan area are all conducted in one building, is receiving much attention as a nationwide model case from metropolitan and regional self-sufficiency sites in other cities and provinces.
This is the result of Busan City working closely with the Busan Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center to expand the center’s functions with great dedication.
The center has a total floor area of 643.17㎡ and consists of ▲1st floor: exhibition and sales of Busan area self-sufficiency products & employment and start-up support space for low-income groups ▲2nd floor: talent development functions, practical and theoretical classrooms ▲3rd floor: center office, financial and welfare counseling rooms, and meeting rooms ▲4th floor: self-sufficiency rest (休) Sky Yard, providing a comprehensive self-sufficiency support space.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “It is meaningful that the first case of a metropolitan self-sufficiency center securing an independent building is born in Busan,” and added, “We will support self-sufficiency support projects for socially vulnerable groups that cannot be missed in a one-stop manner, creating a ‘Busan city where people want to live again even if they are born again,’ with hope and opportunities to rise again despite difficulties.”
