Mercury Launches New IoT Products for LG Uplus
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Mercury, a specialized information and communication equipment company, announced on the 13th that it has completed the development of the new ’AI Remote Control 2’ for LG Uplus and has started supplying it.
The AI Remote Control is a product that wirelessly controls home appliances such as TVs, set-top boxes, air conditioners, and air purifiers through voice or smartphone applications (apps). It allows operation of home appliances from outside via smartphone, making it one of the important devices in LG Uplus IoT services.
The ‘AI Remote Control 2’ supplied by Mercury this time is an upgraded version of the existing AI Remote Control, significantly improving the device initialization process for better usability.
In particular, even older home appliances that were used at home can be connected to the IoT with the ‘AI Remote Control 2’ product as long as the infrared remote control works, and LG Uplus IoT service subscribers can use IoT control and IoT services through smartphone applications (apps) or voice commands.
Meanwhile, according to an IDC report released in December last year, the global smart home device shipments reached approximately 870 million units last year, and it is expected to increase by about 4.6% this year, indicating continuous growth in the smart home device market.
A Mercury official said, “We have been developing technology in this field for several years to proactively respond to IoT, a core technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution era,” and added, “Following AI Remote Control 2, additional IoT products will be launched within this year.”
