At the '2023 Major Business Report Meeting' held at Suwon Convention Center on the 10th, Mayor Lee emphasized, "We must attract companies and secure tax revenue stably to create a city where citizens want to live," adding, "We will do our utmost to help Suwon City become an 'Economic Special City.'"
He continued, "Suwon City's financial independence and financial autonomy have been continuously declining, and the economic growth rate was minus 10.8% as of 2020, the lowest level in Gyeonggi Province," explaining, "The number of workers in the secondary industry is decreasing, while the number of workers in the tertiary industry such as self-employment is increasing every year, making it inevitable for the economic growth rate to be low."
Last year, Suwon City's financial independence ratio was 44.19%, and financial autonomy ratio was 55.73%. The financial independence ratio is about half of what it was in 2000 (89%).
As major policy projects for this year, Mayor Lee presented ▲ the establishment of the 'Suwon Enterprise Saebit Fund' worth 100 billion won ▲ promotion of the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport and designation of an economic free zone ▲ drastic shortening of the project period for redevelopment, reconstruction, and street housing maintenance projects ▲ creation of community-made palm-sized gardens ▲ introduction of Suwon-type integrated care services and establishment of a comprehensive plan for single-person households.
Mayor Lee stated, "We will create the Suwon Enterprise Saebit Fund to support small and medium-sized, venture, and startup companies, foster an investment ecosystem, and create quality jobs," adding, "We will also actively promote the construction of 'Gyeonggi International Airport' and the designation of an 'Economic Free Zone' to create new industry momentum."
