70-Year-Old Woman Crossing Crosswalk Killed by Right-Turning Dump Truck
[Asia Economy reporters Jang Sehee and Gong Byungseon] A woman in her 70s died after being hit by a dump truck making a right turn while she was crossing a crosswalk.
On the 10th, the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul booked a man in his 50s, Mr. A, on charges of violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (causing death) and is investigating. According to the police, Mr. A was making a right turn at the Samgeori intersection in Gwangjang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, at around 8:50 a.m. that day. He stopped briefly but resumed driving and caused the accident. At the time of the accident, the victim was crossing the crosswalk in accordance with the pedestrian signal.
The dump truck continued to drive a few meters after the accident. Mr. A reportedly stated, "I did not see the pedestrian when making the right turn."

A police official said, "We have investigated the driver and witnesses. The suspect was not under the influence of alcohol while driving," adding, "Whether to apply charges for fleeing the scene will be decided after the investigation."
