Jungjingong Steps Up as a Problem Solver for SMEs' 'Technology Commercialization Concerns'
Recruitment of Participating Companies for the 'SME Technology Commercialization Capacity Building Project'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young) and the Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 12th that they are recruiting companies to participate in the 'SME Technology Commercialization Capacity Building Project,' which supports the commercialization of patents and technologies owned by small and medium-sized enterprises.
The SME Technology Commercialization Capacity Building Project is a program that discovers promising technologies that have not yet been commercialized, diagnoses the likelihood of successful commercialization from the perspectives of technology completeness, marketability, and commercialization capacity, and then provides customized commercialization support by type, such as ▲ commercialization support ▲ market-friendly functional improvement ▲ technology transfer. Support began in 2017, and the commercialization success rate of participating companies in 2022 was 55.6%. This is 12.7 percentage points higher than the average commercialization success rate of 42.9% for government research and development (R&D) projects.
The support targets are SMEs that possess technologies that have passed government R&D success evaluations and have registered patents but have not yet been commercialized. Commercialization support includes assistance with commercialization planning, product performance enhancement testing, and market marketing to help technologies with insufficient marketability successfully enter the market. Support covers up to 75% of project costs, up to a maximum of 80 million KRW.
Market-friendly functional improvement supports additional technology development for companies needing technological supplementation to improve functions and performance according to market demands. Support covers up to 75% of project costs, up to a maximum of 100 million KRW. Technology transfer assists companies that own technologies with excellent completeness and marketability and wish to transfer technology by helping with marketing through registration on technology trading platforms and technology transactions and protection using technology trusts.
