[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Another aftershock of approximately magnitude 7.5 has occurred in T?rkiye, where a record-breaking major earthquake took place.
On the 6th (local time), the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that at 1:24 PM, an aftershock of magnitude 7.5 struck 59 km north-northeast of Kahramanmara?, T?rkiye. The depth of the epicenter was analyzed to be 10 km.
Initially, EMSC reported the aftershock magnitude as 7.7 but revised it down to 7.5 about 30 minutes later. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) also detected this earthquake and reported it as magnitude 7.5. The epicenter of the aftershock is known to be not far from the location of the initial major earthquake.
Earlier that day, at 4:17 AM, a magnitude 7.8 major earthquake struck an area about 33 km from the southern Turkish city of Gaziantep. At least 900 people have been reported dead in T?rkiye alone. Approximately 500 fatalities have also been reported in neighboring Syria.

This is the strongest earthquake recorded in T?rkiye since December 1939. Fuat Oktay, Vice President of T?rkiye, stated that more than 70 aftershocks have occurred on this day alone following the major earthquake.
