Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure at Central Military Manpower Administration Related to 'Military Service Corruption'... Investigation into Employee Involvement
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution, investigating the 'military service corruption' case involving false epilepsy diagnoses, has conducted a search and seizure at the Central Military Manpower Examination Office under the Military Manpower Administration.
According to the legal community on the 4th, the Joint Investigation Team for Military Service Corruption of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office carried out a search and seizure at the Central Military Manpower Examination Office located in Daegu on the 30th of last month and secured work-related documents of the office staff.
The Central Military Manpower Examination Office is an institution where individuals who are exempt from military service, those who appeal their military service evaluation, or those requiring detailed examinations undergo re-examinations during the military service evaluation process at local Military Manpower Administration offices.
The prosecution is known to have focused on securing work-related documents of the staff responsible for military service evaluations. They are investigating whether the staff member aided some military service candidates in evading service.
Following digital forensic analysis of the mobile phone of Gu, a military service broker who was arrested and indicted in December last year, the prosecution detected the possibility of involvement by an internal employee of the Military Manpower Administration, prompting the search and seizure. Once the data analysis is complete, the prosecution plans to summon the employee to investigate their involvement in military service evasion and their relationship with broker Gu.
