Gyeonggi-do Releases Results of Livestock Odor Removal Agent Field Test
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has disclosed the results of a demonstration test on odor reduction agents for pig farms.
The Gyeonggi Livestock Promotion Center announced on the 3rd that it conducted a demonstration test on three commercially available livestock odor reduction agents from August to December last year.
The demonstration experiment was set up inside a pigsty at the Livestock Promotion Center to simulate a typical farm environment. The facility was equipped with odor measurement devices and a fog spraying system capable of dispersing odor reduction agents. Odor emission levels were measured using sensors in four pigsty zones under identical conditions, and the effectiveness of the agents was compared by spraying or fogging them for a set period.
Two types of odor reduction agents were used: industrial deodorants and microbial agents. The comparison and analysis were conducted by measuring concentrations of ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), and composite gases before and after spraying the agents, as well as by assessing the persistence of ammonia reduction effects.
The results showed no significant difference in the reduction of hydrogen sulfide and composite gases between the industrial deodorants and microbial agent products. However, regarding ammonia reduction, the industrial deodorant products showed a comparative advantage over microbial agents, while the persistence of the reduction effect was better in microbial agent products than in industrial deodorants.
Lee Kang-young, director of the Livestock Promotion Center, said, "Odor issues are one of the challenges that must be resolved to alleviate negative perceptions of livestock farming and to promote eco-friendly livestock production. This demonstration test is meaningful as it analyzed the practical effects of odor reduction agents under conditions similar to actual farms."
