Gurye-gun Discovers 300 Billion Won Scale Projects for Regional Growth

Driving Local Economy Through Securing New National and Provincial Funding Projects

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yuk Mi-seok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun announced on January 30 that it has discovered 33 new projects worth 306.8 billion KRW through a new policy discovery report meeting.

Continuing from the 7th local government term to the 8th, Gurye-gun plans to drive regional economic growth by focusing on the four key zones (Gurye-eup, Seomjingang, Hwaeom District, Oncheon District) projects, fostering the healing industry, and discovering projects to improve residents' convenience.

In the Gurye-eup zone, plans include a 20 billion KRW urban wind path forest project, a 3 billion KRW local creating studio establishment, and a 2 billion KRW pedestrian environment improvement project on Bongseong-ro. In the Seomjingang zone, there is a 5 billion KRW Seomjingang ecological forest path media art project and a 42.3 billion KRW installation of a Y-shaped pedestrian bridge. The Hwaeom zone includes a 15.3 billion KRW Hwaeomsa cultural regeneration project, and the Sandong Oncheon zone plans to invest 40 billion KRW in the Jirisan Oncheon Pet Wellness Park and 1.4 billion KRW in landscape improvement around Surak Waterfall.

Additionally, for +α zone development, 30 billion KRW will be invested in the Jirisan Healing Agriculture Campus, 15 billion KRW in the Korea Pungsu Museum, 7 billion KRW in major bridge landscape improvement projects within the area, and 2 billion KRW in the creation of the Millennium Ancient Temple Cultural Exploration Path called Musoyugil, totaling 54 billion KRW in the tourism sector.

For SOC and living infrastructure maintenance, 5 billion KRW will be allocated for renovation of auxiliary facilities at the public stadium, 6 billion KRW for the construction of an all-weather auxiliary athletics stadium, 2.4 billion KRW for the installation of an arcade structure at the 5-day market, and 28.7 billion KRW for the second phase expansion of the Ganjeon local water supply system and other water and sewage sectors, totaling 42.1 billion KRW. In the safety sector, 10 billion KRW will be invested in the Nogodan loop road hazardous section improvement project and 40 billion KRW in the Gyesan district natural disaster risk improvement project, totaling 50 billion KRW.

In the Jirisan Garden activation sector, 1.6 billion KRW will be invested in the Sansuyu Natural Recreation Forest automobile camping site and 1 billion KRW in the barrier-free sharing path project, totaling 5.1 billion KRW to actively promote projects for regional economic growth, population inflow, and living infrastructure establishment.

Gurye-gun has been developing into the most attractive tourism city in the southern region where nature, history, and culture coexist through future-oriented development of Osan cable car private investment attraction, Natural Dream Park Phase 3 attraction, and 4+α zones over the past five years following the 7th local government term.

Furthermore, to create future food industries, Gurye-gun plans to continuously promote unique projects aligned with Jeollanam-do and central government’s key directions for fostering the healing industry linked with pristine nature and eco-friendly agriculture, such as establishing healing and healing clusters and the healing agriculture campus.

Governor Kim Soon-ho said, “Due to population concentration in the metropolitan area and declining birth rates, 105 out of 228 cities, counties, and districts nationwide face the risk of population extinction, and ours is one of them,” adding, “Although much effort has been made to attract private investment and foster local industries, more innovative changes are needed to overcome the population extinction crisis.”

He continued, “We will discover various projects linked with central policies such as the Population Extinction Response Fund and implement diverse policies to promote regional economic growth and attract young populations to protect Gurye’s future.”
