Samdasu and Chorok Maesil Also Getting More Expensive... Prices Up for Drinks Following Ice Cream Increase
Price increases have continued in the food industry since the beginning of the year. The wave of price hikes that started last year for ice cream, bottled water, and beverages appears to be ongoing this year as well.
According to the industry on the 25th, Jeju Development Corporation will raise the ex-factory price of Samdasoo by an average of 9.8% starting from the 1st of next month. This is the first price increase in five years since 2018. After the increase, Samdasoo will be sold at 480 KRW for 500ml and 1080 KRW for the 2L product at major supermarkets. The reasons are rising labor costs and increased prices of materials such as PET bottles.
Woongjin Foods will also raise the convenience store prices of 20 beverage products by at least 100 KRW and up to 300 KRW starting next month. The representative product Chorok Maesil will increase by 7.6%, from 1300 KRW to 1400 KRW for the 180ml product, and Achim Hetsal will rise by 7.5%, from 2000 KRW to 2150 KRW for the 500ml product. Other products included in the price hike are Gaya Farm Aloe, Corn Silk Tea, Teazle Yuzu Green Tea, and Haneul Bori.
Binggrae will also raise ice cream prices starting next month. Seven types of ice cream, including Melona and Bibibig, as well as Super Cone, will increase by 200 KRW from 1000 KRW to 1200 KRW. The final prices will be applied sequentially after consultation with distribution channels.

A Binggrae representative explained the background of the price increase, saying, “The prices of raw materials such as dairy products, labor costs, logistics costs, and energy costs have continuously risen, making the manufacturing cost increasingly difficult to bear. Due to intensified management pressure, we have inevitably decided to implement the price increase.”
