Gyeongnam Office of Education to Implement 'Student-Customized' Policies

According to the provincial Office of Education on the 19th, this year Gyeongnam Office of Education plans to eliminate academic achievement gaps through ‘student-customized education.’

An official from the provincial Office of Education said, “Happy School 3.0, the first pledge of Superintendent Park Jong-hoon, will concretely implement regional Happy Schools by reflecting regional characteristics and utilizing local infrastructure according to the 2022 revised curriculum.”
The Office of Education will also strengthen teacher liability insurance, teacher safety system supplementation, and teacher psychological and emotional healing programs.
Support for early childhood will also increase, including operation of iJoha Safe Kindergarten, tuition support for foreign children and free education for private kindergartens, and establishment of intelligent NAIS kindergarten.
Additional support includes treatment support fees and special aptitude education fees for students with special education needs, after-school programs, Hope Sharing Schools during vacations, and Saturday program operation support.
In preparation for the implementation of the 2022 revised curriculum, the Office will solidify the development of elementary school curricula in Gyeongnam, operation of the Nuri Classroom curriculum, and basic academic support systems.
Utilization of iTalkTalk and iBook will be enhanced for use in elementary and secondary school subjects and assessments, and teaching materials will be developed and distributed.
All general high schools in the province designated as research and preparatory schools for the high school credit system will be supported in phased implementation of the system through operation and the Gyeongnam Online School, which will open in March this year.
The Gyeongnam Career Education Center to be built in Miryang has completed feasibility studies and detailed design since the project started in May 2021, and plans to complete construction around October 2024, conduct pilot operation in December, and officially open in March 2025.
Multicultural students will receive customized support in four areas: career aptitude, psychological counseling, Korean language education, and bilingual education.

Won Gibok, Director of the School Policy Bureau, said, “Based on last year’s achievements in the great transformation of Gyeongnam education, we will continuously build a future education system for a better future,” adding, “We will also devote all efforts to recovering education, which has been stagnated due to COVID-19.”
