Mokpo City Expands Infant Allowance... Up to 700,000 Won per Month Provided
Parental Allowance Payment for Families Raising Children Aged 0 to 1 Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo City, Jeonnam, will provide parental benefits to alleviate the economic burden on parents raising infants aged 0 to 1 year.
According to the city on the 16th, the parental benefit is a new government project for 2023 that provides parents raising children under 2 years old (0 to 23 months) born after January 1, 2022, with 350,000 to 700,000 KRW per month.
Last year, infants aged 0 (0 to 11 months) received a monthly infant allowance of 300,000 KRW, but starting this year, it has been changed to parental benefits, with parents of 0-year-olds (0 to 11 months) receiving 700,000 KRW per month and parents of 1-year-olds (12 to 23 months) receiving 350,000 KRW per month.
However, for 1-year-old children attending daycare centers, the support is provided through childcare vouchers instead of parental benefits, and for 0-year-old children, the amount paid is the parental benefit minus the daycare childcare fees.

A city official stated, “Children born after January 1, 2023, can apply by visiting the local administrative welfare center or online through Bokjiro or Government24. The parental benefit is an expansion of the infant allowance, so children eligible for parental benefits who are already receiving the infant allowance will receive support without a separate application.”
