Asian Hate Crime at Indiana University, US... Female Student Stabbed with a Weapon
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A student at Indiana University in the United States was attacked with a weapon on a bus because they are Asian.
According to foreign media on the 14th (local time), the suspect Billy Davis (56) was charged with stabbing the head of a female college student (18) multiple times with a weapon on a bus operating in the Bloomington area of Indiana on the 11th.
The victim reportedly stated to the police that the incident occurred while waiting for the bus door to open to get off. Video footage inside the bus shows that there was no significant contact between Davis and the victim before the incident.
The student was transported to the hospital with a head wound, local judicial authorities said.
Local media reported that Davis told the police, "I committed the crime to reduce even one person who would blow up our country."
Indiana University issued a statement on the 13th saying, "This week, Bloomington sadly reminded us that Asian hate is real," and added, "No one should be subjected to harassment or violence because of their background, ethnicity, or affiliation."
