[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Korea Arts & Culture Committee announced on the 11th that at a temporary meeting held on the 10th, former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jeong Byeong-guk was elected as the 8th chairman. The new chairman's term is three years, until January 2026.
New Chairman Jeong Byeong-guk is a five-term (16th to 20th) member of the National Assembly and has served as the chairman of the Culture, Sports, Broadcasting and Communications Committee as well as the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Recently, he has been active as the principal of the Youth Politics School, aimed at fostering and establishing a foundation for young politicians.
Chairman Jeong stated, "Based on my experience in the Culture, Sports, Broadcasting and Communications Committee and as Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, I will expand the Arts and Culture Promotion Fund, which has lacked a stable independent revenue source since fundraising was suspended in 2003." He added, "I will strive to develop arts and culture by efficiently allocating and utilizing the fund so that the public can enjoy culture evenly."
