"No More Buying Japanese Cars"… Japan's New Car Sales Hit Lowest in 45 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] Last year, new car sales in Japan hit the lowest level in 45 years. This was due to disruptions in the supply of automobile parts and semiconductors caused by COVID-19.
According to local media on the 5th, the number of new cars sold in Japan last year was 4,201,321 units, down 5.6% from the previous year. Kei cars decreased by 0.9% to 1,638,137 units, while other cars dropped 8.3% to 2,563,184 units.
The decline in new car sales in Japan has continued for four consecutive years. Last year's new car sales were the lowest since 1977, when 4.19 million units were sold.
