Kangwon Land Donates 1 Million Briquettes to Energy-Vulnerable Groups
Support of 200 Masks Each for 5,000 Households
Volunteer Activities with Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy at Baeksa Village
On the 5th, Kangwon Land held a donation ceremony to support 1 million briquettes (worth 800 million KRW) to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Briquette Bank, and delivered 800 briquettes to four energy-vulnerable households in Baeksamaeul, Nowon-gu, Seoul.
The volunteer activity was attended by Lee Sam-geol, CEO of Kangwon Land, Park Il-jun, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Heo Gi-bok, CEO of the Briquette Bank. The 1 million briquettes donated by Kangwon Land are scheduled to be distributed to 5,000 energy-vulnerable households nationwide, with 200 briquettes each.
Baeksamaeul is a village formed by migrants who gathered due to urban development in the 1960s. Since city gas is not available, about 450 out of approximately 1,000 households in total currently use briquettes for heating. Additionally, the average age of residents living in the village is over 80, and many households have a monthly income not exceeding 300,000 KRW.
According to the Briquette Bank, this winter, while briquette prices have risen, donations have decreased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and economic recession, exacerbating difficulties for energy-vulnerable groups nationwide.

CEO Lee Sam-geol said, "I hope this briquette support will help energy-vulnerable people across the country who are shivering in the cold wave, even if just a little," and added, "It is said that briquette donations and volunteers have significantly decreased due to the economic downturn, but I hope many people will take an interest in neighbors who are marginalized around them."
